Graduates from the Precision Machining program at EMCC have many opportunities:

• They can continue their education in college. If MCC is that college, we offer dual credit for the Applied Manufacturing program. Most of the students referred from EMCC have received scholarships to attend in this program.

• They may choose to pursue apprenticeships to earn New York State certification through the Rochester Tool and Die and Precision Machining Institute.

• They can go directly into the field to work. I have had 100% placement for qualified students in the field. In fact last year I had shop owners calling me for help filling positions that I had to turn away for lack of students. In addition to learning the skills needed, students can earn high school credit in English and Math while participating in this program.

The misconception that Tool and Die and Precision Machining is a dying trade is ludicrous. The need for skilled trades people is growing every year. It is true some of the old manual trade areas have been fading out, but this due to the increase of exciting new technology in Computer Numeric Control (CNC) /Computer Aided Machining (CAM). This new area of expertise has opened many jobs in the industry.
